Junior Section

Scraptoft Golf Club is the only Golf Club in the East Midlands to achieve the Golf Mark Award as well as the Clubmark Accreditation awarded for being high achievers in the management of Juniors in Golf.

We have a very active Junior Section. It is run by four Junior Organisers alongside our Junior Captain and Vice Captain. There are currently a large number of Juniors at the time of writing with further Juniors continually joining.

Half the Junior section is made up of young, inexperienced beginners who receive subsidised coaching during the Summer Holidays. These Juniors also get the opportunity to get onto the golf course for suprevised rounds. They are also entered into competitions around the County alongside other beginners and younger players.

The older and more establised players also receive subsidised coaching whilst also playing in a full programme of Junior competitions at Scraptoft from March through to October. The Club currently has a team which participate in the Leicestershire League, which involves playing against five local clubs and we also enter many of our Juniors into Junior Order of Merit events around the County. We appreciate that many parents have to work and we have a good transport system set up which allows us to get the Juniors to and from games and competitions.

The season is rounded off with a 36 hole competition, dinner and A.G.M. in the October half-term, where we elect a Player of the Year plus next year's Captain and Vice Captain. A Winter Competition is held for those keen players who want to play on into the football season.

Finally, the progression from a Junior to an Adult member is a lot smoother at Scrapoft than at many Golf Clubs. We currently allow Juniors to play in most adult competitions and once they are at the appropriate level many of the Juniors are called upon to play in Adult Team matches.
